Export AI conversations to Markdown
Markdown export is unlimited on Free and Pro. It is the simplest portable format for editable notes, local archives, and manual transfer to other tools.

Before you start
Open a supported AI conversation, or choose a saved capture that still has full text in browser storage. If you only want the fastest path, open the popup and click Markdown.
Where to export Markdown
Markdown is available from every main RecallBase browser entry point. Use the one that matches where you already are.
- 1
Popup: choose Markdown for the current chat, or open a saved chat and choose MD.
- 2
Floating button: choose Markdown while viewing the current chat.
- 3
Right-click menu: choose Export to Markdown or Copy Markdown on a supported chat page.
- 4
Export Studio: choose Markdown or Copy Markdown after previewing the chat or selecting messages.
Export to Markdown
Markdown exports run locally in the extension. They can include frontmatter, source metadata, timestamps, role-labeled messages, and an assets folder when images are saved separately. See the Free and Pro limits in the capability table below.
- 1
Open the popup, floating button, right-click menu, or Export Studio.
- 2
Choose Markdown to download a .md file, or Copy Markdown to copy it to the clipboard.
- 3
Review the filename if your browser asks.
- 4
Open the downloaded file or paste the copied Markdown into your notes app.
Limits
Markdown export does not require Pro and should not count toward PDF, Word, or Notion daily limits.
Why Markdown is the default safe choice
Markdown is the safest first export because it stays readable without a proprietary editor, can be stored in Git or a notes folder, and can be reviewed by humans or coding agents. It also avoids the ambiguity of browser print dialogs and app-send workflows. If you are building a reusable research archive, start with Markdown and convert to another format only when you need that format.
